Director Norman Jewison remembers his friend Margot Kidder

Margot Kidder, best remembered for her role as Lois Lane in the Superman films of the 1970s and 1980s, has died at age 69. Her role opposite Christopher Reeve made her an instantly-recognizable star, but there's a lot more to her life and career than that.

Born in Yellowknife, N.W.T., Kidder was part of a mining family so she moved around the country a lot. She got her start in Canadian film and TV in the 1960s and, throughout her career, she was well-known as an activist for political and environmental causes as well as a mental health advocate.

Canadian director Norman Jewison directed her in the 1969 film Gaily, Gaily, right after he had directed the Oscar-winning film In The Heat of the Night. He speaks to Tom Power about Kidder's life and legacy.
