Greta Gerwig's directing career takes flight with debut, Lady Bird

Imagine growing up in a small city with dreams of becoming a performing artist but feeling restless because the biggest role you'll likely land in town is a part in your high school play. That's how actress, writer and director Greta Gerwig felt as a teenager. 

Growing up in Sacramento, Calif., she had aspirations to one day move to the big city and make something of herself. Since then, she's gone on to become one of Hollywood's most distinctive voices, best known for her work in films like Frances Ha and Mistress America. Now, Gerwig looks fondly back at her hometown and her experiences growing up there with her Oscar-nominated film, Lady Bird.

Lady Bird is the first screenplay that Gerwig wrote and it also marks Gerwig's directorial debut. Today, she joins Tom Power on the show to discuss her latest project.
