Seun Kuti provides a "struggle soundtrack" to the working class
"We don't have enough revolutionary voices on the radio," Seun Kuti is quick to point out.
The youngest son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, Seun wants his music, especially his new EP Struggle Sounds, to be one of those revolutionary voices.
"People involved in the mass movement for the emancipation of the working class and poor people need something to bump their head to, like a struggle soundtrack," Kuti explains.
But don't look to Kuti as the sole purveyor of the Afrobeat music scene.
"I think it minimizes what Afrobeat is in the world today," Kuti says, of those who turn to him purely because of who his father is. "It's its own force. Even if I died today or if my brother dies today, Afrobeat will continue to grow and albums will continue to come out."
