Q Essay: Hats off to Nash the Slash
A tribute to a music enigma Nash The Slash, stage alias of Jeff Plewman.
Jian dedicates his essay today to Nash The Slash, stage alias of the fiercely independent musician Jeff Plewman. The Canadian artist died on the weekend at the age of 66, and although he didn't sell millions or go mainstream, Jian argues that the inimitable artist most definitely made his mark.
"Like his onstage persona, Nash the Slash was a musical enigma, a prog-rocker, punk-rocker, new-waver, electronic pioneer, composer, performance artist," says Jian. "He was a creative icon that pushed the boundaries of contemporary music, and that epitomized the anarchic, independent Queen Street West scene of the late 70s and 80s."
