Zomba prison project: Hear freeing music made by inmates

A collective of inmates at the Zomba maximum security prison in Malawi may be this year's least likely Grammy contenders. Nominated in the category of World Music, the group is not comprised of professional musicians. Far from it. 

The aging brick prison holds men and women charged with familiar crimes, but also homosexuality and witchcraft. Some children under the age of five also live in the jail, alongside their mothers.

Today veteran producer Ian Brennan joins Shad to describe the harsh conditions inside the overcrowded jail, and how music eases the bleakness of life behind bars.
