TIFF 2016: Jason Gorber on the year of quiet films
Film critic Jason Gorber delivers some TIFF 2016 takeaways.

Film critic Jason Gorber gives guest host Candy Palmater the rundown on the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
Over the course of the 10-day festival it was actually the quiet films that really stood out for Gorber.
"When you have the space to actually tell the story, it's kind of a wonderful thing," he says.
Gorber's top picks:
- TIFF People's Choice Award winner, La La Land. This jazzy musical stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone with Whiplash director Damien Chazelle behind the camera.
- Alien flick Arrival explores a familiar theme of first contact in a new way. Directed by Quebec's own Denis Villeneuve, the film stars Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner.
He also restates his case for watching Birth of a Nation, despite controversy around the film's director Nate Parker.
