Former Charlie Hebdo cartoonist on The Arab of the Future
French cartoonist Riad Sattouf on his formative years and the struggle to find empathy for his extreme right wing father.

Like father, like son? Not so for French cartoonist Riad Sattouf.
The former Charlie Hebdo staffer is still trying to make sense of his father's life choices: A professorship in Libya instead of Ivy League Oxford. A life in rural Syria instead of cosmopolitan France. An embrace of bigoted and sexist ideas despite exposure to the alternatives.
Sattouf — who developed his unique outsider's perspective while growing up under dictatorship — joins guest host Gill Deacon to discuss his formative years, his struggle to understand his father, and his newly-translated memoir, The Arab of the Future.
