Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning presents Home Wrecking Years
Brendan Canning has spent more than 25 years cementing his place as an integral and influential part of the Canadian music scene.
Not only is he a founding member of Broken Social Scene, but also a key force in several other bands and projects. (Divine Right, Len and Cookie Duster, for instance.)
Today Canning swings through studio q with his third solo album, Home Wrecking Years.
Although the breezy collection of layered indie-pop songs is under his name, it's still fuelled by collaboration. He performs three songs with the help of his "top six" — Justin Peroff, Kevin Kane, Greg Calderone, Mark Calderone and Robin Dann.
'You never know'
Canning, who toured with the Tragically Hip as their DJ, also comments on the farewell tour currently travelling across the nation. Having recently watched the band from the audience, he says they sound as good "as good as they have ever sounded."
The musician says he's not too focused on the finality of the shows, citing past farewell tours that didn't end up being the last — like The Who's "farewell tour" in 1982, after which they toured eight times.
"The world is a strange place. You just never know what's gonna happen," says Canning.
