Tom Power hosts. Coming up on q this Tuesday January 31:

  • For her new record Songs Of Freedom, Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman knew that if she wanted to move forward, she'd have to look back. Alongside the companion 2015 documentary series of the same name, the album sees the singer take on the spiritual song book from 'Amazing Grace' to 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.' Brueggergosman performs songs from the record and explains how it led to her life-changing trip to her ancestral home of Cameroon.

  • Aparna Nancherla's new comedy album, Just Putting It Out There is all about being brutally, even depressingly honest. In it, she invites you into her sometimes absurd, always self-conscious headspace. For example, she'll point out how any personal pizza can be personal if you cry while you eat it. Nancherla opens up about what inspires her confessional comedy and why there's no better time for it than the present.

  • CBC's Battle of the Books begins! Canada Reads 2017 kicks off on q, with Tom Power revealing the five notable Canadians who will make up this year's panel and the must-read books of 2017 that each of them will champion.
