Learning lessons from isolation

With more and more Canadians self-isolating at home, Ify and Trevor are seeking out advice from people who are learning lessons about what it means to be isolated.

Across Canada and around the world, people's lives have been transformed by the coronavirus pandemic

Whether you're receiving food from kind strangers, making a radio show from a closet, or living deep in the woods - there is beauty to be found in isolation. (Submitted by Gail Jordan / Andrew Friesen / Norm Carlson)

Across Canada and around the world, people's lives have been transformed by the coronavirus pandemic.

With more and more Canadians self-isolating at home, Ify and Trevor are seeking out advice from people who are learning lessons about what it means to be isolated.

  • Years after leaving the corporate world behind to live on a homestead on the Yukon River, Trevor checks in with Norm Carlson for lessons on how to thrive when it's just you, your partner, and some wildlife... 100 kilometres from the nearest town.
  • Isolated and immunocompromised. Three weeks ago, Brandon Kelm's lupus went from remission to an active flare. And now Brandon, his wife Laura Ruddock and their two kids are trying their best to stay calm and stay isolated in their Calgary home.
  • "Our love knows no barrier." When Wilson Wang noticed the spread of COVID-19 affecting members of the Chinese-Canadian community in Ottawa, he knew he had to find a way to reach those in quarantine and let them know they're not alone.
  • Now or Never listeners call in to share what projects and activities are bringing them joy while they isolate.
  • Living with chronic illness and anxiety disorders, Gail Jordan has been trying to stay calm — not just for herself but her two kids. Fortunately, the CaremongeringTO Facebook Group has provided the community and resources she desperately needed.
