Indigenous music on the rise: Artists to watch in 2021

If 2020 taught us anything, it's to expect everything and nothing at the same time. After the year we just made it through, all bets are off for 2021. But one thing that’s definitely on the horizon is the continued rise of the Indigenous next wave... and Indigenous artists are getting noticed in every corner of the globe.

If the year 2020 taught us anything, it's to expect everything and nothing at the same time. After the year we just made it through, all bets are off for 2021. But one thing that's definitely on the horizon is the continued rise of the Indigenous next wave... and Indigenous artists are getting noticed in every corner of the globe.

Reclaimed is no exception to that acknowledgement: this episode is highlighting Indigenous artists to "watch out for" in 2021. Get ready to start off the new year that's ahead of us with a good vibe, a virtual global tour of what's percolating in the Indigenous music world.

And, this episode also marks Reclaimed's official launch on the Native Voice One Network (NV1). Listeners can now hear the show throughout Turtle Island.

"Indigenous music is on the rise across the continent, and I'm honoured and excited to be joining the NV1 radio family and to share the sounds of the next wave in Native music," says Reclaimed host Jarrett Martineau.

"Indigenous music flows across borders, and I'm excited that the show will now be available to our relations all across Turtle Island. I can't wait to bring more songs and stories to NV1 listeners."

Join Martineau as he showcases Indigenous Artists to Watch in 2021. From Sámi electro-pop in Norway and Quechua trap in Peru, to decolonial doom rock and Maori metal — get ready to travel across Turtle Island and all around the world.
