For Tiko Kerr, art is the heart of existence
Vancouver painter reflects on how his HIV/AIDS diagnosis and love of the West Coast have influenced his work
For painter Tiko Kerr, the moment of a brush hitting the canvas holds endless possibility. The act has helped him face the most challenging times in his life and sort through his deepest fears. When Tiko was diagnosed with HIV in 1985, his art was his comfort.
A short film has been made about his work, both as an artist and an advocate for the rights of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Tiko talks to Candy about the ways his life can be observed through his art.
