It's a photo that's been seen around the world.

A boy wearing a red t-shirt and blue shorts, washed ashore a Turkish beach.

The image of Alan Kurdi's lifeless body put a face to the refugee crisis.

It sparked sadness and anger, and for the CBC's Gillian Findlay, a need to know more. So Gillian traveled with the fifth estate to Istanbul and met the young boy's family to find out what happened.

A family's grief and the boy on the beach. This is Gillian's Back Story.
