'My heart is in Toronto,' says Blue Jays knuckleballer R.A. Dickey
Baseball fans will tune into the first game of the World Series on Tuesday. But for Toronto Blue Jays fans, the night will be bittersweet. On Friday, the Jays were knocked out in a 4-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals. It was a heartbreaker for fans after Toronto had gone 22 years since last making the playoffs. But veteran Toronto Blue Jays pitcher R.A. Dickey thinks fans have good reason to stay positive for next season.
"It's sad that we had to finish before we really wanted to but overall we gave the city and the country and the organization and the fans something to be really proud of, I thought," Dickey tells As It Happens guest host Laura Lynch.
One of the memorable moments of the playoff run was after the Jays won the American League Division Series. Dickey went onto the field at the Rogers Centre to celebrate with fans in the seats.
The beloved knuckleballer thinks the future is bright for the Toronto Blue Jays and hopes to return next season.
"My hope and my heart is in Toronto and I'm hoping to compete next year as a Blue Jay."
