The mercenary Wagner Group's leader Yevgeny Prigozhin was portrayed as 'a hero of Russia' before they took up arms against the country on Friday, says Anastasia Edel, a social historian at the OLLI Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, who watches and analyzes Russian state media.
