McLachlan recording album of new songs

It took seven years, but Sarah McLachlan says she's got a new album of songs to be released in June.

Canadian songbird Sarah McLachlan has announced she'll be releasing her first album of new songs in seven years.

The Laws of Illusion will be launched June 15, according to the singer's website.

The 42-year-old performer, who founded the Lilith Fair all-female music festival, became a world sensation in 1987 with her debut Touch. She followed that up with bestselling albums Solace, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy and Surfacing.

The Grammy and Juno Award-winning songwriter's hit singles include Into the Fire, Possession, Angel and I Will Remember You.

In the past decade, she has released several concert records and anthologies, but they featured only a few new tunes.

During that time, the Vancouver-based chanteuse also retreated from public life.

In 2008, she announced her split from Ashwin Sood, the drummer in her band. The couple has two daughters.

Meanwhile, Lilith Fair is still going strong. Its 2010 lineup includes Ke$ha, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Kelly Clarkson, Erykah Badu, Sugarland, Heart, Norah Jones,  Loretta Lynn,  and Tegan and Sara.
