Ball python, 'Little Lady', reported missing 2 months ago turns up in Preston
Little Lady was found basking in the sun outside an apartment building in Preston
After she was reported missing over two months ago, the four-foot long ball python, Little Lady, was reunited with her owners Tuesday afternoon.
The snake had been the subject of a police and animal rescue search in June when she was reported missing from her home on Chandler Drive in Kitchener.
Little Lady was found "basking in the sun" in the parking lot of an apartment building in the Preston area of Cambridge, according to Sarah Ardnt, a volunteer with Ground Search and Rescue KW, a non-profit animal rescue team.
"I was very surprised," said Ardnt.
"The thing with ball pythons is that they hide, so finding her in plain sight is amazing. We're so happy that Little Lady's been found and she's safe."
Ardnt said they weren't sure it was Little Lady right away because the snake would have travelled quite a way from her home.
She said they tried to compare markings with a picture of the original snake and a description from the woman who had found Little Lady.
Ardnt said Little Lady's owner eventually met up with the woman in Cambridge and he was able to confirm that the snake was his.
"After reviewing her thoroughly, the markings were exactly the same, so he confirmed that it was Little Lady," she said.
"She was just a little bit smaller and skinnier than when she left the owner's possession."
How Little Lady made it to Cambridge is a mystery, Ardnt said, adding she could have followed the Grand River in search of food, She's also not surprised that Little Lady was able to fend for herself in the wild.
"They are very resourceful," she said.
"As a full grown python, they can go a while with out feeding. I'm just happy we were able to locate her."
