Calgary Mayor Jyoti Gondek has announced she will seek re-election as an independent, calling political parties "the kiss of death for local representation."

The program will provide warming centres that can accommodate up to 400 homeless Calgarians and connect them with overnight shelters, among other resources, the Calgary Homeless Foundation says.

Jennifer Henson, a 16-year Canada Post employee, is among the workers in Calgary growing concerned as the national strike reaches the two-week mark. The local union says those on the picket line are having to make tough financial decisions.

Canadian officials say SunFed Produce brand whole, fresh, American cucumbers have been recalled due to potential salmonella contamination. The cucumbers were sold in several Canadian provinces in October and November.
