Junos 365 sessions: the Trews cover 'Hot Child in the City'

As part of our coverage of the 2019 Juno Awards, we're inviting some of today's hottest Canadian acts to cover a past winner in the single of the year category.

For their Junos 365 session, the Trews chose Nick Gilder's hit "Hot Child in the City," which won the Juno for single of the year in 1979. 

"It's got some ingredients that we definitely do in our band, a lot of gang vocals, a lot of harmonies, a bit of a funkiness to it," explained band member John-Angus MacDonald (guitar, background vocals). "So yeah, it was a natural fit."

MacDonald is joined by Colin MacDonald (vocals, guitar), Jack Syperek (bass, background, Chris Gormley (drums) and Jeff Heisholt (keys, background vocals)

"Fun, light songs like ['Hot Child in the City'] make people feel relaxed," said Colin. "When it's too heavy all the time it's got a weight to it, and there's something nice about songs that are as light as a feather. And I think that's why they stay popular for so long. You're never gonna put on that song and go, 'Oh, man.' You're gonna put on that song and go, 'Yeah!' So that's good."
