Pop art DIY: Create your own Warhol-inspired masterpiece

Andy Warhol is one of Steven's favourite artists. So, he's showing us a super easy way to make our own Warhol-inspired wall art.

One of Steven Sabados' favourite artists is Andy Warhol. His work is well recognized throughout the world. He hung out with the 'who's who' on the entertainment scene and chose consumerism as the theme for his art.

Back in the early 1960s, Pop Art was emerging, and Warhol started painting readily found, mass-produced objects, drawing on his extensive advertising background.

Today, Warhol remains one of the most influential figures in contemporary art and culture, who once famously philosophized: "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes."

Here's how you can make your own Warhol-inspired art!

What you'll need:

  • 11x14 frame (with 8x10 matte)
  • Black & white image, with high contrast and saturation
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Bright, complementary-coloured cardstock

Directions:

  1. Choose desired image and adjust to black & white finish on your computer. Adjust to add high contrast and saturation.
  2. Print the image onto different coloured pieces of card stock.
  3. From each different colour of paper, cut out ONE of the main pieces of the face with the most contrast: hair, eyebrows, eyes, ears, lips, teeth. Keep one colour set aside as the base piece.
  4. Using a glue stick, glue down each of the cut out pieces onto the main base piece. Place into picture frame.
