We all feel a little bloated from time to time. But when you're having trouble buttoning your jeans, there are some foods that can help with the bloat! Holistic nutritionist Peggy Kotsopoulos stopped by The Goods to talk about some tummy tightening foods that will leave you satisfied.

First of all, there is no miracle food. Eating these foods alone will not make your tummy flatter. A flatter tummy is a combination of overall diet, exercise, genetics and a lot of hard work. But certain foods can definitely help, so Peggy helped us unveil some of the foods to reach for.

Cabbage or kimchi?

Peggy says: Kimchi. Kimchi has probiotics that are missing from cabbage because kimchi has undergone the process of fermentation. Probiotics are super helpful for gut health. Healing your gut will help reduce inflammation, and probiotics found in foods like kimchi can help with this.

Basil or cinnamon?

Peggy says: Cinnamon. When you have too much sugar in your diet, it stores as belly fat. Some research shows that cinnamon can help to lower your blood glucose levels and it could could potentially have a "beneficial effect on glycemic control." A little goes a long way! Try adding it to your coffee instead of sugar. It will even add a bit of natural sweetness to your drink.

Fennel or Walnuts?

Peggy says: Fennel. Fennel is really great for the digestion process. Having raw fennel after a big meal can help with bloating, or put it in a tea or try juicing it. It helps to get those digestive juices going that can reduce that too-full feeling.

Avocado or celery?

Peggy says: Avocado. Avocado is high in potassium. Often when we're really bloated it's because we have too much sodium in our bodies. So the potassium in the avocado can help to get rid of that extra sodium and reduce water retention. Another reason it works is because it's a monounsaturated fat. In other words, avocado contains a good fat that helps mobilize stored fats. Your body actually needs healthy fat and Peggy suggests that you generally avoid fat-free packaged foods when you're reaching for a snack because you need good fats in your body in order to lose belly fat.

Eggs or apple?

Answer: Eggs. Eggs are full of protein that can help you start your day off on the right foot and keep you on track, even when late night cravings strike. They help fill you up to prevent potentially unhealthy snacking throughout the day. Eggs can also act as a diuretic that will help keep belly bloat at bay.

Try some of these bloat-reducing foods in your meals and your tummy might thank you!
