Binge-worthy fashion: Style inspiration, pulled straight from the small screen
Jessi Cruickshank wants you to watch your TV and wear it too.
We turn to TV for entertainment, but it's also worth taking note of what our favourite on-screen characters are wearing. Fashion expert Jessi Cruickshank thoroughly believes binge watching your favourite shows in the name of style can turn all those hours into something entirely productive. And with so much stunning TV out there right now, it's easy to find inspo in wardrobes that span decades and locales. Plus, it turns out elements from tons of those looks are everywhere right now. From Schitt's Creek to Stranger Things, here are Jessi's tips and tricks for turning TV's most covetable ensembles into accessible looks for your wardrobe.
The Inspo: Schitt's Creek
Jessi's take:
To channel the style of Schitt's Creek's Moira Rose, Jessi layered unexpected pieces, including a striped turtleneck under the PVC dress. PVC was a huge trend in the '90s and early 2000s, and now it's back in pants, skirts and dresses. But, because it's not clinging to your body, it feels like a wearable way to wear PVC that's definitely still bold. For shoes, think comfort, but still opt for a statement. These platform oxfords are such a comfortable alternative to a heel and you can wear them all day long.
The inspo: Stranger Things
Jessi's take:
This look is a total throwback to the '80s, but everything pictured is entirely on-trend for spring and summer 2018. The very popular mom jean is defined by a high rise and light wash, and pairs perfectly with a cute denim jacket that will never go out of style. The shoes are in a classic pink, which makes the other pink elements of the look stand out. Jessi also says that to incorporate even more of this style into your fashion rotation, mix and match your layers and prints to make additional unique '80s-inspired looks from your own closet.
The Inspo: The Crown
Jessi's take:
This look channels a young Queen Elizabeth, without her money, jewels, or title. Must-haves like pastels, cardigans, pleated skirts and delicate accessories are everywhere this season — and this look flawlessly incorporates them all. None of these classic elements will ever go out of style, but feel free to mix it up by pairing the skirt with a loose tee or cute band shirt for a modern edge.
