3 celeb-approved ways to style your hair this spring
Spring is springing — the frost is thawing, the blossoms are blooming and you still have the same old hairdo. So, in honour of that fresh spring dew, why not try out a fresh new do? We brought in hairstylist Natalie Ventola to show us the latest celebrity hair trends that are absolutely perfect for spring.
The loose side braid
Canada's sweetheart Rachel McAdams sported this versatile style with diamonds and a gown at a movie premiere, while Drew Barrymore went for a more natural and undone look. The side braid is a great option for those with really long hair, who are tired of just leaving it down all the time. Plus, it has a real youthful vibe to it, so it looks great on kids and teens as well!
Directions:
- With a curling iron or wand, put your hair into loose curls.
- Apply a dry shampoo or dry texture spray for volume.
- Separate your hair into 4 sections and fishtail braid it.
- Fasten the end of your braid with an elastic.
- Finesse and finish with hairspray.
The slick, wet look
As seen on stars like Kim Kardashian and Shay Mitchell, the slick, wet look is probably the biggest celebrity hair trend right now. While it seems made for the runway or red carpet rather than a day at the office, don't let this style intimidate you! It can actually be very wearable, and there are many different 'wet' looks you can try from straight to pulled back to a ponytail.
Directions:
- Dampen your hair.
- Apply mousse to half of the hair, placing extra up top on your roots.
- Briefly dry your hair with a blow dryer or diffuser to add a bit of curl and crunch (literally just a couple of seconds).
- Finish with a shine spray.
The textured pony
You can create this style high with volume at the top like Gigi Hadid or low with some pieces pulled down at the front like Jessica Biel. It's a really simple, chic look that you can rock pretty much everywhere, from work to brunch to a night on the town.
Directions:
- Add a bit of bend to the front pieces of your hair with a curling iron.
- Apply a plumping powder to the roots of your hair for added texture and volume.
- Spray with hairspray, then separate the hair at the crown of your head into 3 sections. Backcomb each section individually.
- Blend the backcombing and pull your hair back into a ponytail with an elastic.
- Take a small piece of hair, apply hairspray and wrap around the elastic, fastening with a safety pin.
- Finesse with hairspray to finish.
