The catwalks in Milan are always about a laid back, yet pulled-together sense of style—very European! This season, the beauty teams were drumming up statement ideas for hair and eyes, both taking centre-stage on the runway at Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Prada, Marni et al. Here are our four favourite Fall/Winter 2018 beauty trends, straight from Italy's fashion capital.

The big crop

At Roberto Cavalli, model Stella Lucia lost a few inches courtesy of Paul Hanlon, who chopped her blonde locks backstage creating an edgy and of-the-moment look that many will clamour for come summer. Over at Moschino, each model, including Kaia Gerber and the Hadids, wore wigged bouffant bobs, channeling Jackie O. Radhika Nair's curly, banged bob at Jacquemus was edgy, messy perfection, while Cara Taylor at Versace and Marte Mei's at Marni made the case once again for a messy bob.

Right meow

Different "breeds" of cat eyes were on display in Milan, including colourful flicks from Pat McGrath at Prada (blues, greens and pinks, were accented with Swarovski crystals), Tom Pecheux was seeing rouge at Antonio Marras (shocks of red and fuchsia flicked up at the outer corners), and at Dior, Peter Phillips went futuristic (think, matte pink, burgundy and yellow cat eye liner, with a matching lower lash line that popped). Over at Max Mara, the model's worked a grunge girl look, with fuzzed out cat eyes in carbon and black, and a Milan classic liquid liner flick was spotted at Emilio Pucci and Alberta Ferretti.

High beam

Want to look awake even if you've gotten less than the required eight hours of sleep last night? Look to the makeup at Stella Jean, Fendi, Emporio Armani and Tommy Hilfiger for your next wake up call. At Stella Jean, makeup artist Michele Magnani applied M.A.C's Grand Illusion Glossy Liquid Lip Colour (available later this spring) to the inner corners of the eyes, as well as one the lips, for an ode to the winter Olympics. At Fendi, a shimmery white was added to the tear ducts, while at Emporio Armani, a silver highlight at the inner corner play counterpart to an intense green/grey smokey eye. Gigi Hadid and her cohorts at Tommy Hilfiger also silvery white shimmer for a spin to add a glam-rock vibe to the automotive-inspired clothing.

Project red

If you're looking to switch shades, it's time to think red. At Alexander Wang in New York, model EZ walked down the runway with slicked back, freshly dyed red hair. Over in Milan the trend to red continued. Teddy Quinlivan and Remington Williams brought a more a natural shade to covet at Moschino. At Tod's, Kiki Willems' rich strawberry blonde matched flawlessly with her burnt orange shearling and pleather look, while Hoyeon Jung sported a deep copper hue.

Micro-trends

Smoothed out strands gave model-off-duty waves a polished update at Versace. It wouldn't be Milan (and Dolce & Gabbana!) without a perfectly done red lip.
