Bring the heat: June's new beauty buys are here

It's been almost 17 years since singer and actor Aaliyah passed away, but the demand for her M.A.C cosmetics collection is about to hit a fever pitch. Finally launching this month (fans started an online petition begging the brand for a tribute collection!), the line is only one of a myriad of hotter than hot items that you can add to your stash this season. From long-wear, easy to apply lips to hydrating mists that pull double duty to the latest must-have sheets masques, here's our round-up of the best beauty buys to hit the shelves this month.

Stain stan

If you love a good lip stain (is there a beauty junkie that doesn't?), you'll fall for this Waterlip Lip Tint from Clarins. Reminiscent of Benefit's cult fave Benetint (both are a viscous, tinted water, and come with a brush applicator), this one is made specifically for lips, and promises to last up to 300 kisses. That declaration may be hard to test out, but report back if you feel like giving it a go! Lips look naturally tinted, and slightly matte, sort of like they've been tattooed with your favourite shade. You can apply once for a slight flush or layer on for a more saturated, standout pout.

Miss you

When fans started an online petition a few years ago for M.A.C, the purveyor of all cool collaborations, to create a line based on R&B icon, Aaliyah, they didn't want it to happen without the star's family being involved. So the brand tapped Aaliyah's brother, Rashad Haughton, to aid in its creation. Their mother had a stash of her late daughter's personal belongings, including some lipstick shades, which the duo brought to their meetings with M.A.C. They then co-created a line of two lipstick shades (including the Try Again nude matte lipstick), as well as an Age Ain't Nothing eyeshadow palette, which includes a shimmering gold, some matte brown shades and a rich Bordeaux. The line lands online June 20, in store June 21. We miss you, Baby Girl!

Wake me up!

Oil production on the scalp happens mostly at night. Enter detoxifying charcoal dry shampoo from Kaia Naturals. It takes four hours to absorb oils, so it's best to shake and spray before you head to bed, as the product will absorb odour and sweat while you sleep. It comes in two shades, blonde and brunette, and Kaia Naturals founder Mary heard from a friend that most dry shampoos contain a propellant like butane, to help spray powder product, which means that cans actually only contain about 40 per cent of the actual dry shampoo. The latest scent in the Prada Les Infusions line is pitch perfect for summer! With a hit of bitter orange, the scent goes from slightly sensual to enigmatically refreshing in one spritz. Expect hits of neroli and mandarin leaf to round out this heady scent, one that will remind you of a pitcher of freshly squeezed OJ. Mimosa anyone?

While Sephora's line of sheet masks are certainly not new (and if you haven't tried one lately, their worth revisiting!), what is new is their bio-fibre sheets, which snugly hug the contours of the face to help deliver potent ingredients (this time pineapple, to help perfect pores and even out skin tone) in a more effective manner. Consider yourself upgraded.

Friday, I'm in love

Toronto-based Flawless by Friday has the sheet mask game on lock, so it makes perfect sense that the brand would venture into cosmetics territory. They just launched their makeup line, with dual ended liquid lipsticks in matte and glossy shades, but the stand-out here is their six powder Glow Getter palette, which comes with a Cheek Sheet so users know exactly where to place each shade for a contoured/highlighted-to-perfection look. This is your perfect summer glow in one palette.

Bronzed beauty

If you're looking for the easiest self tanner application like ever, St. Tropez is it. The bronzing beauty behemoth just launched a tanning face mist, with a mist so fine that you really won't worry about where and how to apply. Simply spritz the mist toward your face, and the naturally derived DHA (the ingredient that gives us that glow) will sink into the complexion, while hyaluronic acid helps to plump and hydrate. This clear formula also contains tropical hibiscus flower for a sweet smelling way to help fight against free radical damage. Talk about a triple threat!

If you're a diehard sea salt spray fan, give your locks a little rest with the help of this new sugar spray from Kérastase. The Aura Botanica beach spray, formulated with Paraguayan sugar and Mexican aloe vera, will give you that textured, piecey look, but without the drying effects of salt. It's Pride month, so let's celebrate! Another mist to hit the shelves this month comes from Rodial's cult classic line Dragon's Blood. Fanatics of this collection will be clamouring for this mist, which along with hosting its star ingredient (which helps to soothe and moisturize the complexion), also contains vitamin B to help boost skin's elasticity and support collagen production. Pump up the volume

Who knew that we needed calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper and silica in a mascara, but Lise Watier's V Element Volcanic Minerals Mascara promises a 200 per cent boost in volume so we're willing to give it a go. The fortifying formula, which comes in the blackest black shade, also helps to protect lashes without clumping or flaking.

It's all about balance

The latest from Burt's Bees, this new sheet mask promises to deliver loads of hydration to the skin, is also chock full of balancing ingredients like clary sage, willow bark and kiwi extract to help improve skin's texture.
