Sachin Seth is a walking contradiction.

On the one hand, he's a dentist and member of the Faculty of Dentistry at Dalhousie University. On the other, he has a massive sweet tooth.

Born and raised in Halifax, Sachin's parents came to Canada from India in the 1960s. Sachin learned to bake alongside his mother and often weaves Indian flavours into his creations.

Sachin has become his family's go-to cake baker for birthdays and special events. His crowning achievement in the kitchen was baking a friend's wedding cake. "It wasn't the most complicated cake I'd ever made, but it was my first tiered cake," he says. "It didn't help that it had over 100 gum paste roses on it. I'd never made those before!"

His signature baked item, though, is almond croissants.

"They take a few days to make," he says. "I generally only make them around the holidays. Over the years, they have become synonymous with the feeling you have that time of the year: celebration, family time, all that good stuff."

As a long-time fan of the The Great British Baking Show, Sachin was "so bummed" that he missed last year's casting call for season one of The Great Canadian Baking Show. To make sure he didn't miss out again, he set up multiple calendar reminders.

"I watched every episode," he says of the first season. "I was so envious of the contestants, hoping that I would get a chance in a second season. I need[ed] to get on this show and put my culinary chops to the test!"
