SAN DIEGO, CA—Panic and confusion struck the San Diego Comic-Con this morning when an attendee wearing an Iron Man costume entered the convention hall frantically swatting at a bee.

The altercation between the insect and superhero enthusiast Jamie Meyer reportedly started just outside the doors of the San Diego Convention Centre and set off a series of increasingly bumbling mishaps, leaving dozens injured and descending the event into chaos.

At approximately 11:02 a.m., moments before he was to walk the convention floor and show off his extremely detailed Iron Man, Meyer became frightened when a bee flew close to his helmeted head. Swinging his arms and twisting around like a maniac, the 37-year-old network administrator's frenzied gesticulations led him into the packed building. According to eyewitnesses, Meyer entered the hall already screaming at the top of his lungs.

"I was adjusting my cape when Iron Man runs into the place shrieking in terror," said Loki cosplayer Matt Gund, one of 27 attendees injured in the commotion. "It was muffled by his mask a bit, but you could tell he was real scared."

Meyer's panicked entrance sent nearby conventioneers fleeing for cover as he found himself entangled with Quantum Leap star Scott Bakula, knocking both onto an escalator headed for the main hall. As the still-spasming Marvel fan and his unwitting captive ascended, Bakula's entourage, including Quantum Leap co-star Dean Stockwell, chased behind.

"When they reached the top, Scotty managed to shove the guy in the shiny suit off and trip him over an R2-D2," recounted Stockwell, who admitted to not having seen the Iron Man films.

"This Iron Guy was on a rampage," he added. "We're lucky Scotty Boy made it out alive!"

Upon tripping over the four-foot tall droid, Meyer knocked his helmet askew with the bee now trapped inside. Further diminishing his already limited vision, he then fell backwards into the front seat of the original Batmobile from the 1960s TV series, there on display in tribute to the late Adam West. Still flailing his arms wildly to remove the insect, the now upside-down Meyer unlocked the vehicle's parking brake.

"The car rolled straight into the Nintendo booth, which collapsed onto the Dr. Who booth right beside it," said eyewitness and Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. "And they just kept on falling down. Every single one, right after the other, like dominoes."

Meyer was reportedly knocked unconscious in the stampede that followed, ending his reign of terror approximately 90 seconds after it started. In an unprecedented move, Comic-Con officials have temporarily suspended the convention to rebuild tend to the wounded, but promised to reopen "in time for the big Game Of Thrones Q & A."

At press time, the status of the bee is unknown.
