Edmonton's TD Kids Book Club explores imagined gardens with Jon-Erik Lappano

Grade 4 students at Edmonton's Ecole/Escuela Grandin joined Daybreak Alberta host Russell Bowers for a conversation with author Jon-Erik Lappano about his picture book Tokyo Digs a Garden. The event was one of six TD Book Clubs happening across the country, in celebration of the books nominated for the 2017 TD Canadian Children's Literature Award.

Tokyo Digs a Garden illustrates the magical transformation of a city into a jungle right before the reader's eyes. Students, however, did not have to travel any further than their school's halls to learn how Lappano turned his idea into a Governor General's Literary Award-winning picture book.

Lappano answered questions ranging from the title's origin to the authors that inspired him, also offering writing advice for future storytellers.
