Let Catherine O'Hara sell you some eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
Do you think she remembers this? Nearly 40 years ago, she did her best to vouch for 'milk of amnesia'
Almost 40 years ago, in a 1978 interview for CBC with Paul Soles, beloved Canadian actor, comedian and writer Catherine O'Hara showed off her early comedic chops in one of her favourite skits: a fake commercial for something called "Milk of Amnesia."
"Well, the kids are finally off to bed, and frankly I'm worn out," she explains. "After a hard day, do you ever wish you could just sit back, relax and forget the trials and tribulations of the day? Well, I do — with Philips Milk of Amnesia. I just pour myself a snifter of Philips Milk of Amnesia and let the cares of the day float off to I don't know where."
In honour of O'Hara, who is nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Comedic Role at the Canadian Screen Awards for her portrayal of Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek, CBC Arts found this archival footage. Sit back, enjoy and remember exactly why O'Hara first made us all laugh out loud.
