'Find me beyond your hate': The challenge behind calligraffiti artist Karim Jabbari's mural (CBC Montreal)
Everyone's heard of calligraphy and graffiti — but what about calligraffitti? Karim Jabbari is an artist who is using Arabic calligraphy and graffiti to draw attention to people's perception of his culture. Written across his new mural are words inspired by Tunisian poet Aboul-Qacem Echebbi: "I would like to understand the universe, but I am unable to understand myself." Jabbari's mural is painted on the side of Al-Omah Al-Islamia Mosque in Montreal. The one message he hopes people take away from his art? "I want to tell people, man, you can find me beyond your hate. Just get enough courage to just jump that hate, and then you'll find me waiting for you."
