On his 47th birthday, Terry Ryan was called into action by his hometown Newfoundland Growlers. The team was struggling with injuries and illnesses, and Ryan stepped in to play his first pro game in over 20 years. (Jeff Parsons/Newfoundland Growlers)

It's been more than 20 years since Terry Ryan last played professional hockey, but on Sunday night, he went pro once more.

Ryan, who's a former Montreal Canadiens draft pick and played for the team briefly in the late 1990s, took to the ice for his hometown Newfoundland Growlers against the Adirondack Thunder after a flu outbreak left the Growlers short-handed. His appearance marked both his first game of professional hockey in 21 years and his 47th birthday!

Ryan joins host Elamin Abdelmahmoud to talk about getting called to play for the Growlers and his character Hitch on Shoresy.
